Are we there yet?

Well, it’s a matter miles. 5,560 miles in fact, but Google Maps tells me it can’t find the way.

It’s also a matter of days; one day to be exact. This makes it seems even more unlikely, right?

Yet I’m here to tell you that it’s happening: I have a show opening in Barcelona, Spain on Friday, April 5th and another one opening in Manzanita, Oregon the following day. While I won’t actually be in both places, but my art will be. This makes me grin.

I’m also grinning because of the art classes I just finished here in Portland at Ulna Studio. Two afternoons of abstract painting, playing with color and shape and texture and rhythm. A warm-up exercise that among other things asked me to find the sad part of the piece and tend to it, then to find the joyful part of the piece and tend to that. A light-filled room with so many other people, all different from me, yet all drawn to the same time and place and act of creation.

Art spans, and somehow also expands. This gives me hope.
